Family share memories of Kenya’s marathon legend
Kenya’s marathon legend, Kipchoge Keino, will always be remembered by his family as not just a sporting hero, but as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Keino, who won Olympic gold in the 1968 and 1972 Games, passed away peacefully at his home in Eldoret, Kenya, surrounded by his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren shared fond memories of their time together with the legendary athlete.
“Dad was not just a runner, he was a role model to us all,” said Keino’s daughter, Sarah. “He taught us the values of hard work, perseverance, and dedication. He always made time for us, no matter how busy his training schedule was.”
Keino’s son, David, added, “I will never forget the pride in my father’s eyes when he crossed the finish line and won gold. It was a moment of pure joy and triumph that will stay with me forever. He was not just a champion on the track, but in life as well.”
The family recalled the times they spent together, traveling to competitions around the world, supporting each other through triumphs and defeats, and celebrating the moments that defined Keino’s legendary career.
As the world mourns the loss of a sporting icon, Keino’s family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the values he instilled in them and the countless lives he touched through his athletic achievements.
