Israel agrees to change Eurovision song lyrics

Israel has agreed to change the lyrics of its entry for the Eurovision Song Contest following criticism that the original lyrics were seen as provocative and disrespectful.

The song, titled “Set Me Free,” was originally performed in Hebrew with the line “I’m a proud lioness, a warrior.” Many felt that the lyrics were potentially offensive and could be interpreted as glorifying violence.

After discussions with Eurovision officials and an outcry from various advocacy groups, Israel has decided to alter the lyrics to remove any controversial or potentially problematic language. The new version of the song will focus more on themes of unity and peace.

Israel has a long history of participating in the Eurovision Song Contest, with a strong track record of success. The country has won the competition multiple times, most recently in 2018 with the song “Toy” by Netta Barzilai.

The Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place in Rotterdam, Netherlands in May 2021. Israel’s entry, along with those from over 40 other countries, will compete for the top prize in one of the world’s largest and most-watched music competitions.
