A piece of tragic rock history is up for grabs as a bullet from the gun that killed Beatles legend John Lennon is set to be auctioned off.

Mark David Chapman, the man who shot Lennon outside his New York City apartment in December 1980, used a Charter Arms .38 Special revolver. The bullet was recovered from the crime scene and has been kept as evidence for over four decades.

The auction house handling the sale has described the item as a “unique piece of dark rock and roll history” and expects it to fetch a significant sum.

Despite the macabre nature of the item, there is a market for such memorabilia among collectors of music history and true crime artifacts.

The auction is set to take place next month and is sure to generate significant interest among fans and collectors alike.
