Brazil ex-leader Bolsonaro denies coup allegations
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has denied accusations of attempting a coup during his time in office. Bolsonaro, who was ousted from power last year, refuted claims that he had sought to undermine democratic institutions and seize control of the government.
Speaking at a press conference, Bolsonaro stated, “These allegations are baseless and unfounded. I have always upheld the principles of democracy and respect for the rule of law during my presidency.”
The accusations against Bolsonaro stem from his controversial statements and actions while in office, including his support for military intervention and his attacks on the media and political opponents. Critics have accused him of eroding democratic norms and seeking to consolidate power at the expense of the country’s institutions.
Despite the allegations, Bolsonaro remains defiant, calling for unity and reconciliation in Brazil. He has vowed to continue fighting for his political beliefs and to defend his legacy as president.
