Star Wars game cancelled as EA cuts 670 jobs
Electronic Arts (EA) has announced that they are cancelling an upcoming Star Wars game and cutting 670 jobs in a restructuring effort.
The game, code-named “Orca,” was in development at EA’s Vancouver studio and was reportedly going to be an open-world adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson stated that the decision to cancel the game was a difficult one, but necessary to refocus their efforts on creating games that players will love. The company will be shifting resources to other projects, including a new Star Wars game from Respawn Entertainment.
The job cuts will primarily affect EA’s publishing and marketing teams, with some positions being relocated to other locations.
Despite the setback, EA remains committed to delivering high-quality games in the Star Wars franchise, with several projects still in development.
